Upside
New rebuild! it appears I installed the Pistons upside down. Should I just rotate them or pull them out of the cylinders and start over with the proper ring orientation.
|
Ring orientation doesn’t matter as they will move to their desired location almost immediately.

So I'm going to remove the clips and piston pins and rotate piston in the cylinder 180 and reinstall pin and clip does that sound right ?
|
IMHO Ring orientation does matter; on the flat 6 motor you never want ring gaps pointed straight downward as that contributes to even more oil pooling in the cylinders when left for a long time, and even more smoke than usual on startup.

If your engine uses offset piston pins, you really need to R&I them correctly.

1977 2.7 cis engine with euro Pistons I don't think they are offset. If I pull the piston out will I damage the rings or is there a trick involved? I hate to buy new rings they were hard to fit and required a different size for the center gap!
