Engine Stripping and Storage Questions

I'm in the process of stripping down a 2.0 '69E engine need a bit of advice:

- What should I be looking for in the bearing shells? - They are all an unmarked uniform flat grey colour

-The cam chains, rod bolts, head studs should all be replaced right?

- How should I prep the crank and cams for storage for future use? Just oil them and wrap in plastic?

- How can I clean the pistons without damaging them? They seem to have some stubborn carbon build-up

Thanks for any suggestions!
And yes, I'm planning on buying Waynes engine book when it comes out :)

Regards,
Andrew M

- Look for scrape marks and unusual wear patterns from one bearing to another
- You don't need to replace the head studs on your 2.0L
- Oil and wrap in plastic is good. Plastic not really necessary - just use motor oil
- The piston grooves are what you don't want to damage. The tops can be cleaned with a wire brush attached to a hand drill.

I cleaned the outside of the pistons with a wire brush and I cleaned the grooves by breaking a ring in half, sticking it in the groove. (recommended by my mechanic).
