Comparability of parts

Hey All -

I’m scrounging up engine parts for my build but a lot of the parts come from different engines and not sure if I can use them all in one build.

For instance, I’ve got:

964 case
993 heads
964 cam tower & rockers
911SC fan and chain boxes

Questions:

1. Can 964 cam towers be used with 993 heads
2. Is it possible to use early SC chain boxes with 964 case?

Any input appreciated. Thanks,

Rusty

The 993 heads will accept the cam towers but you need the proper 8mm Allen bolts for 993 heads have no studs
I’m going to say no on the chain boxes because the chain rails are different and the oil to the tensioner is fed through the chain box. The tensioner does not have the idler
As the Carrera usess
Really two different motor layouts

Thanks Bruce. Looks like I’ll need to use 993/964 chain boxes and tensioners.

Bruce - if you could figure out how to get oil to the cam towers/carriers, why couldn't you use the earlier chain boxes and tensioners with the 964 chain towers? Run an external line, figure out where to plumb into the chain towers? Some tapping and fittings and maybe drilling, but should work?

Though Porsche thought the 964 and later system of tensioning was better, so maybe on balance why kludge, assuming getting the later chain boxes isn't super expensive?
