Cylinder head nuts.

Guys just pulled my 1798SC engine down.Car was running beautifully, however 3 broken head studs need fixing.
Ill obviously replace all studs. However what about nuts? All mine are clean and in good order.Do they need replacing or can I reuse? Thanks.

The nuts are usually good to reuse. The only issue is when the washers and nuts are corroded and pitted. That can lead to poor holding, or coming loose. You can replace the washers if they are pitted and smooth the bottom of the nuts as needed.

Hi.

A good upgrade is to use the 964 head nuts.
I have them on my 1982 SC engine and they work great.

We have good used nuts and washer both early 911 and 964 in stock by the bucket full.
We haven't used a stock head nut or washer on a 911 rebuild in 15 years.

So why do you keep them? :DSmileWavy

We use Supertec head studs on all of our builds.
They come with a German made, serrated flange, 10x125mm, 12 point nut coupled with a precision ground, hardened washer.

Sometimes people ask for them.
There are many ways to build these engines and one of my goals is to help.
If someone wants to use the stock nuts I have them.

The prettiest sight I've seen in a machine shop was when I was working in an engine reconditioners. We had a 12c Cat head or something on the big, big head refinisher.

Seeing that massive head go from burned to bright cut metal in one swipe was awesome.
