Replacing factory bonding agent on galley plugs

Hi everyone,

Rebuilding my 1989 911 3.2 and have a question regarding the original bonding / sealing agent applied by the factory to seal/lock the galley and other plugs in the case halves.

I know I need to fill the area inside and outside near the oil cooler where there is an oil pipe cast in place. My question is on all of the other locations mentioned in Wayne's book. Does everyone always wire brush off the old media and apply new JB Weld? I don't have a problem doing it. I just have the concept floating in my brain, that "if it works fine, don't mess with it" I don't currently have any leaks in any of the plug areas.

Just want to confirm it's still highly recommended (or not) to remove, clean, and replace.

Thanks,

Mark

Until I started chasing a leak on top of a build I didn’t pay any attention to sealed plugs.
Turned out to be a leak behind the flywheel and the flywheel rotation would leak oil to the top in the triangle area close to centerline. Real night mare at the time
Now, as a matter of course the wire brush and JBWeld
