Looking for 964 Cams before/after Dyno Charts
Thinking about putting 964 cams in my 2.9 (2.7 w andial 2.9 kit)
|
Nobody?
|
How high is your compression? I did this with my 3.0 . I don't think the upgrade was worth the work. I did have the 8 5 to 1 compression ratio which I was told was reason it didn't work well.
|
9.8:1, supposedly
|
Dyno sheets.... nobody has them?
|
964 cams in 2,7
74' 2,7 with 9,5:1 JE and 964 cams otherwise stock.

I think the question that needs to be answered is what induction are you using?
If I was running a 2,9, with Andial P&Cs, I would want something like a mod S cam. Why are you committed to a 964 cam? Are you running CIS? |
CIS. I'm not commited to anything. I just saw a set for sale.
|
Well a 964 grind is about as far as you can go cam wise with CIS.
The problem is you have 47mm three bearing cams now, and 964s have 49mm four bearing cams. Also the 2,7 CIS will limit your power. |
Yes, but you can get 2.7 3 journal cams reground to 964 specs
|
Are you sure a 964 cam profile will work in you engine?
Back when I had a stock Euro 2.7 8.5:1, I asked Dougherty about camshafts and got the answer that an SC profile was the most aggressive I could go to. Valve clearance was the issue. |

So nobody has before/after dynos?
|
Still looking
|
i'm not sure it's something anyone's tried before on that setup.
I have a set of stock 2.7 and 3 journal SC grind, never got around to putting them into my car...went full build as we tore down and found issues. If you need a core for a regrind (stock 2.7) or want an SC grind, let me know. However since your pistons have valve pockets, you may be better off with something more aggressive. Talk with DC cams and get their take. |
I'm really just looking for a 2.7 dyno chart, then cam changes, then another dyno chart. Doesn't have to be my exact setup.
|
Most who upgrade their cams (or other stuff) won't do a before and after, just an after, maybe.
Can't your cam-supplier give you one? Do a before dyno pull now and if you decide to change cams you have a baseline. If you search here you will probably find a dyno sheet from a 964 cam on a 3.0 or 3.2, you'll have to extrapolate from that. Edit: Daugaards dyno plot says quite a lot. +30 hp and more power high up from stock (assuming 175hp which could be more because Porsche engines almost always delivers more than spec.), would need to increase rev limiter to 7000+. |

Prior thread, no dynos, but has drive impressions. Funny to see my post on there from 7 years ago when that was the route I was going to take.
