Oil Cooling - unusual build
So, I am building a 1971 bay VW van powered by a 1985 Carrera 911 3.2 engine. The engine and transmission have been fitted to the van before rebuilding including all bracing and reinforcement. The oil tank is in the same place (right hand side of the engine).
The engine has been rebuild by Neil Bainbridge using Euro spec NOS pistons to up the CR and PMO carbs. I am trying to figure out how large a oil cooler I will need as I know the Carrera had a fender mounted one. the difference here is that mine will have to be mounted horizontally so not as much airflow. What size cooler should I choose? I am planning to use a oil thermostat. I am also planning to have aluminium pipes made with AN fittings as it is a long run from the engine to where the oil cooler will be fitted (between chassis rails). any advice? |

Awesome!
Those very long aluminum pipes should get most of the cooling done without much need for a large heat exchanger.

Probably you will be ok with some ducting and a fan. Where are you located?

yep seen that thread. Mine is built with the 911 engine in the same place as the original engine. I am based just outside London so will be looking for long aluminium tubes and an oil cooler and ducting. The problem is that there is no space for a fan.
Does anyone in the UK know a firm that makes up aluminium hard line pipes with 37 degreed ends for AN fittings? |
