2.7 to 2.9 with 93mm Nickies a viable option?
I have a new project coming up and it comes with a 2.7 engine. I was going to swap it for something bigger, but I noticed it does have a 7R case, so I got kinda keen on building something fun from it.
I know LN Engineering now makes 93mm slip-fit Nickies with 10.5CR (maybe the spigots need to be bore a little?), with cylinders walls that should be able to take the general abuse (and heat). So with the standard machine work to the case/crank, Bigger oil pump, pauter rods and ported and twin plugged heads with EFI on top - this could be a renaissance for the 2.9 - or am I wrong? I'm looking for a 250hp isch fun and light engine for a hot rod (not race car). 3.6's are dull....... |

We are currently involved in a project exactly like this. We are doing a lot more air cooled projects now, going back and modernizing these parts.
We are developing some new parts for this 2.9L max conversion, new longer, lightweight steel Rods, bridged forged Pistons, lightweight Rocker arms, new cam designs and some other parts. Our target is 260BHP, so close to what you are wanting. The parts are common for both 2.7L and 2.9L but for the piston. The 92.0mm Piston is not a bridged forging as these start at 93.0mm. Same rod, same camshaft etc. Some of the 92.00mm parts were developed for Jeff (homebuilt). If you need more info about these new parts, PM me or email me and I will do this privately. |
