Catorce Oil Filter Console

I was very intrigued by the Catorce filter console in the 'disaster' thread, so I hope my question is appropriate for this forum.

The Catorce website shows this filter console taking the place of the engine mounted oil cooler. Does that mean I need an aftermarket oil cooler somewhere else on the car? Or does it mean that our 911 engines are happy to run WITHOUT the original oil cooler?

Sorry if that's a 'newbie' question, but it's not spelled out at the website, so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the plug on my products. There are a ton of threads on here about the effectiveness of the engine mounted oil cooler - or the lack of effectiveness thereof.

My oil filter console was created for track cars that already had a front mount oil cooler or coolers, and therefore the engine mounted one was redundant.

As to the effectiveness of the cooler on a STREET car, I will defer to the more experienced members of this forum, but my gut tells me it does little to nothing.

Catorce, thanks for your speedy reply!

I suspected that you intended it for cars with a front mounted oil cooler. On a street car, I imagine something like Elephant's wheel well cooler would also suffice. The possibility of running a street car, 'sans cooler,' is also intriguing. I hope others will offer an opinion.

From the other thread, I learned a lot about 'upstream and downstream' oil filtration that I'd never considered before. If oil cooling is sufficient or taking place elsewhere, your filtration manifold seems like a 'no-brainer.'

BTW: I enjoyed seeing the beautiful work represented on your website.

I run filters in place of the engine mounted cooler on my race cars. All of them predate Catorce's filter console, so I haven't tried his, but it does look like a good product. Note that the factory put filters in this same spot on all its 911 based race cars back in the day.

Catorce - not sure if I asked this previously ... I recall that your filter console has the angle filter mount for additional clearance. Does it have enough room for a large filter like a System 1 and still clear an oil line mounted directly below?

Hi Scott,

Yeah my filter has a big angle on it so you can actually remove the filter without contortions. Both the 993 console and the 965 console make for a really hard filter to remove. Of course both of these filters were made with power steering in mind, so I decided to design one without that consideration.

Works excellent, lots of them sold already and out there.

how is the oil line connected ? Do you use an adapter that allows using the stock rubber hose to be used ?

The stock one comes with a -16AN female threaded attachment point, because remember, most of these guys are racing and thus don't use the stock oil lines.

We are in the process of making an adapter to fit it that accesses the stock S hose so you can use all of your normal oil lines and connect everything.
