Most of the kits include parts that the machine shops replace. (valve guides, seals ) My suggestion is don't include them. Also, include Flywheel bolts, and the O-rings for Carrera chain tensioners, even on the early kit. Also, don't automatically include new rings. Pistons need to be replace too often.

I think EBS has a pretty good approach. They offer 3 levels. (1) Top end kit. (2) A Rebuild kit that covers most of top and bottom end and (3) A master rebuild that includes P+C's.

The rebuild kits can have parts that aren't needed deleted.

I think number (3) above is uneccessary though. It would make more sense to just offer a discount on P+C's when ordered with a kit.

One more suggestion. Your book should be offered at a special price when purchased with a rebuild kit.

I have a firm policy of *not* discounting the book. The knowledge and information that are inside are worth twice as much as the retail price of the book.

Perhaps it can indeed be tossed in for free with a purchase of a "Master Kit," but I would think that most people shopping for these parts would already have a copy...

I am inclined to agree with Bobboloo, above.
On the master rebuild kit I would include EVERYTHING that must be replaced, especially the things like rod bolts and nuts, flywheel bolts, timeserts, important engine updates, some non important but needed updates, eg turbo valve covers, valves, everything that a properly "remanufactured engine" would contain. In other words when you are done you have good as new engine. Its pretty expensive to do this at retail, so a good price break would be important, in other words it should not be cheeper to go to Stoddard for the same thing already done for you.

On most items, our margins are already pretty low, so there's probably not going to be much of a price break for the rebuild kits themselves. I am going through the catalog and verifying that our prices are up-to-date.

I'm also working on the Engine Rebuild Wizard:
