Solid to hydraulic lifter conversion

I did a search, and it seems like it is possible. But I am wondering if anyone sells a kit, or has actually done this.

I'm looking to convert a 3.0sc engine to hydraulic lifters, and the easiest path to do so while the engine is apart being rebuilt and converted to 3.2SS

Where are the lifters in a 3.0L Porsche engine?

You’ll have to change cams if you go that route. The hydraulic ramps are different than solid.

I have a 993 and went the opposite direction. Given the amount of miles driven per year it does not seem like a heavy maintenance burden. It was the wise choice due to my new higher lift cams. I love the added mechanical sound. The hydraulics also seems inconsistent in valve clatter. Tells me they’re not always zero clearance as theory suggests. When you consider the oil pump pressure varies but valve spring pressure does not it makes sense as to the vagueness of it all.

Best of luck going down this path. It’s not something I’d endorse but I understand we all have different goals and objectives.

Totally not worth it. Pretty sure you need the chain boxes, heads, and some other oiling things... The 993 has an extra oil filter for a reason. How do you plan on keeping the lifter oil supply fresh and keeping them working for a long time without having to go back in (the whole point of hydraulic lifters)

Lots of time and money for little benefit. Get a 993 engine in there to enjoy some added power if you want hydraulic lifters.

hi everyone i was wondering if there is some special procedure to fill lifters with oil prior to fitment and difrence in procedure for new and old i have a 993 engine and i was wondering if i should buy the tools that go on back of cams to time the engine, i have the gear to do cam timing for earlier engines and thought the hydraulic lifters mite be only set by rear cam tools as hydraluic lifter would affect the accuracy would anyone know thanks nick

Sub in a standard Rocker for timing cams.

It could be done, you’ll need the cam housings, chain housings, cams, rockers, and some fittings here & there.
