Piston Squirter Bore Size

I pulled the piston squirters from my case and found that the bores in the case measure 6.25-6.30mm. Is this normal?

I was expecting something closer to 6.0mm as I've read here that that is the stock size. The removed squirter bores are still in tact and they measure 6.25-6.30 suggesting a close press fit and there is some dryed sealant like loctite on them. I'm not sure if someone besides me has been into this engine before.

Is there a squirter availalble with a 6.25 outer diameter? I've read that oversize squirters are available at 6.6mm. I seem to be right inbetween the standard and oversize and not sure which way to go.

This is a 3.2 Carrera case from 1987.
Thanks.

"Catorce" on this board makes serviceable squirters. You will need to drill the hole oversize to install his 6.5 mm squirters. I've installed his, but not run the engine yet. Mine were original but also bigger than 6mm.

Thanks for the plug Ed!

Klax, here is your problem in a nutshell.

Porsche officially made TWO squirter sizes that you can buy from them.....6.0 and 6.6. No other part numbers are available.

YET, about 20% of the people that I sell squirters to have this intermediate size that measures around 6.25-6.3mm.

I have never received a satisfactory explanation as to why this is but I can tell you it is more common than you think. My best guess is that Porsche drilled a bunch of squirter holes wrong in the mid 1980s and then decided to fix them by ordering a custom bore to fill them.

The fix is pretty easy: You go to the overbore size of 6.6 which requires minor drilling. There really is no other way to avoid it.

Why couldn’t you just reuse the old ones that you took out?

Thanks guys. I’ll reach out to Catorce. I don’t think these are reusable items, I drilled away the top edge of the barrels to pull out the piston and internals and in the drilling process marked up most of the squirter holes. Also widened out the entry hole at the bottom with a screw.

Ah ok I get it. I’ve never replaced them, just blew them out.

No way to put them back in right after they are extracted due to really thin aluminum walls.

I love the idea of these and I have been trying to place an order for over two months but I get an error message when I go to the payment page.
Are these still available?

Folks have been having a hard time getting in touch with the vendor for a few months now. Let us know if you have any success getting the squirters.

I ordered (and paid for) a set 9/5/2020 on the Taormina website.

Last response from Adam was 9/20/2020.

I'll update this when (if?) I get mine.

I have a set of the std. 6.0mm size for 911 oil pumps (not the larger 930 or larger pumps) if anybody is interested.

There’s also an email address directly below the phone number.
I emailed because that’s what people do in the twenty first century, especially when the person you are trying to contact is at the other side of the world.
I have had no reply, I suppose I shall have to wait for Adam to reappear.

And you still have no piston squirters.

So, the new squirters are 6.25 mm, not 6.0 mm or 6.6 mm?

Did you measure the squirters you removed?

I’m just saying the ones I bought on two different occasions a few months ago all measured as shown above. I measured the bores not the actual squirter as the squirters become deformed when they are threaded for removal along with any residual retaining compound.
I think the reusable ones are NLA, I don’t think it was a profitable project as it was patented and I’m sure manufacturing wasn’t fast or cheap.
