3.2 into a 1973

Over the winter I am going to install a 1988 3.2 into my 73 with a 915 transmission. I have seen posts that say that you need a flywheel from an 84-86. What is the difference between the 84-86 and an 88 flywheel?

The 88 is for the G50 and is larger, much like a turbo flywheel
You want an 84 to 86 and three shorter studs for the bell housing
The shorter G50 stud will work for you in the starter position

Are they difficult to find? Guess I could search the classifieds.

The studs will be on the engine you remove

The g50 has three short and one long stud for the starter. Because the g50 flywheel is thicker, one of the g50-specific short studs can be used as the long 915 starter stud with the 915 setup (you’ll then need to buy three 915-specific short studs). This is what’s been said on the forum anyway. I’m doing a similar setup on a 76 as we speak. I’ve ordered conversion parts for my specific setup from Patrick Motorsports and will be purchasing the three short studs from our host this week...

I’ll let you know how it goes...

Thanks, I am a little nervous about getting it right

I believe you'll have to clearance the bellhousing on the transmission for the crank sensors as well.

I've got a flywheel from a 70,000 mile 85, was planning to post it for sale one of these days.
