3.2 / 3.4 twin plug what about the ignition side
 

Good morning,

I´m in the middle of building a 3.4 twin plug based on a 3.2 Carrera. I will use the original Bosch DME with a chip.
What options do I have with the ignition? Can I use the wires that originally powers the coil and control two MSD boxes? Or can I just run a second coil parallel to the original coil? But I think the spark would be to weak and/or I´ll toast my DME?
Any other options?

And then just use the original 3.2 dizzy but with a conversion set to twin plug?

I have never attempted what you are trying to do, but look at a wiring diagram for a 3.6 and see how they have it set up. The DME probably needs 2 separate drivers to do this, but with all of the aftermarket electronics available, there might be a splitter outside of the DME that will work. You might call Clewett engineering or Protomotive, Todd knighton. Both are very good tuners. Bob

Search in the General discussion forum. Lots of discussions on how to accomplish this. Basics are you need a twin plug distributor and two coils. There are splitter options to drive the coils and two MSD boxes are also a option.

Why would you use stock DME if you go with twin-plug? Or with any built engine?

You cannot just run two coils in parralel, it doubles the current on DME IGBT and also you get weaker spark. To compensate for weaker spark you would have to add more dwell to coil but that would even further strain the IGBT inside DME.

Sorry for the late reply. I think i was unclear about my plans. Sorry for this and my poor english. I prefer stock DME, with a chip from steve Wong- if it´s proper dialed in it´s plug and play and therefore better than all aftermarked ECUs.
So I don´t want to run two coils powered by the DME. I want kind of an adapter/splitter that can be installed instead of the coil and then produces a signal that triggers the MSDs. I searched all forums but didn´t found anything that helped me. So any other ideas?

Only thing the stock DME is better at than a properly installed aftermarket ECU is it's cheaper as you already have it!:)
