1980 911 SC broken piston skirt

https://photos.app.goo.gl/oCcFfYhat29Kzimd6

That's a google gallery of the skirt.

I'm replacing the head studs on a stock 1980 911 SC Targa. We got everything stripped except for splitting the case, which we're not doing.

Unfortunately we discovered a chipped skirt on one piston. It's the driver's side rear piston. It looks like it's been running that way for a long time (prior to my ownership). I changed the oil a few times and there was nothing in it - no chips and no silvery material in the oil.

We measured the bores and they seemed to be stock and the cylinder looks ok. So I'm thinking I can get away with just buying a stock piston.

Any advice on anything else we should be looking for?
It's a MAHLE.

*I've had the car 20 years, just sitting.
* 13 years ago I got it almost going - new tank, fuel system etc. It just didn't run right. Took to Porsche dealer and they couldn't fix it. Took it to an independent and in a few minutes they found 8 broken head studs. Gave me an estimate and I just didn't want to spend 10k on a car I wasn't likely to use much.
* Took the motor out ~12 years ago. It's been sitting in my basement since.
* Recently took it all apart and got the broken studs out.
* ~80-90k miles on the car.
* Rebuilt engine? at some point. Don't have details. (Was in NJ in the late 80s.)
* Kept up by previous owner, until it sat for a few years with him, then 20 with me.
* Everything is completely apart - our next step is ordering replacement parts etc.
* My 16 year old is trying to get it going so he can drive it. He's learning how to strip bolts, drop stuff and lose it, and the discovery process of 'while I'm in here'.

I wonder if a machine shop can fix it without affecting weight too much? Might be easier than trying to match size, weight and wear.

I would replace it with a good used one. Should not be too hard to find. I would start by posting a Wanted with the specs you need.

I am doing the same job on my 81 SC. Rob
