S-Cam or GE40
I'm building a 2.7 HC right now, and I've gotten conflicting opinions on cam selection. Should I go with the old stand-by S-cams or go with GE40s?
The engine will be a 2.7 9.8:1, w/ Webbers and early sports exhaust. The car is street legal, but mostly used for Non-competitive track events. There are no smog or safety inspections in Florida, and 93 octane, and even race gas is available at the pumps here. Any opinions would be appreciated. |
Have or will you port the heads?

No, I'm leaving them at 35mm. This is close enough to RS specs not to bother (36/35mm).

OK; at 36 mm's the factory RS was slightly port constricted, which is why the torque curve more resembed an engine with an E cam rather then the S that it really had. So your engine with...
S Cam: Similar to an RS, but with slightly less top end, but just as good as an RS below 6000 RPM. So 195-200 HP on carbs. E Cam: Better then an S cam below 4000 RPM, not quite as strong as the S above 4000 RPM but I doubt that you'll notice. GE40: About half way between the E and the S. It sounds like a GE40 might be a good fit. |
