Chain link clips ?
 

New chains fitted. A new style link for me. Just need reassurance they are good which I'm sure they are.

Yup, and the scary part is when you're doing an oil change and see an e-clip stuck on the magnet. Wasn't a phone conversation with the owner that I liked to make.

If you split the case, use the factory style chains.

That gives me zero confidence.

The deal with clips is to install them so that if they hit something it forces the clip onto the pin, not off of it.

But just about no one would use the removable link style if they had the case apart. This style is useful if you decide to replace a chain without splitting the case. I did just that when converting my '77 2.7 to pressure fed tensioners in the late '80s. Of course, I could have left the old chain alone, too. I had no objective basis for figuring that it needed to be replaced.

I have installed those in the past with no problem. The type I saw more often was with the one long clip. I would be willing to bet that link can be ordered through either your parts source or the dealer. A part # I have is 901 105 530 00, though I am not sure what version that is referencing. Bob

So was mine, so with these you can't be sure which way the clips would point after a while. I'd be inclined not to use this style. And, if you have the case apart, no reason really to use anything with clips.

If you ever need to change the chain without disassembling the case, it is simple enough to grind a head off of one of the pins, or otherwise use a chain separator tool or the like to break apart the chain. No benefit I can see.

For goodness sake, do not use those clips! We have had two cars in our not very big group have them come off, luckily with no disaster, somehow the side plate stayed on. One guy found a single clip on his magnet during an oil change. The other was much scarier, during a top end rebuild, I found both clips were missing from one chain. The old tried and true conventional style clip never gives trouble.

901 105 530 00 is the parts you need to buy if you buy these chains. That will give you a proper link. Makes me wonder why they make a cheap one and a good one.

Jwis German made. Been told its a Porsche supplier.

Do you have the case together already? Better to use the chain without removeable link if possible.

I never split the cases. Just a top end .
