GT3 rod bearings

I have 2 choices for the GT3 rod bearings for my 3.0 engine, part # 996 103 121 94. Glyco or Genuine Porsche. The Glyco set says Germany and the Genuine Porsche bearing carries the part# and the Porsche triangle symbol. Is this Glyco bearing OK, or do I run from it. I had heard that the GT 3 bearing was reliable, but which one. Thanks, Bopb

I have always used the factory bearings, I heard from another pelican that the glyco red box set do not measure the same clearance as the factory bearing as in much less with the same size big end dimension, at 2.205 I have always ended up with.0028-.003 on a typical strong std journal with the Porsche bearings

I don’t know if Apples to Apples, but for my 3.2 Rebuild, I (ultimately) used Clevite 77 bearings for my Rods, and GT3 Reds for my mains. Lot’s of learning curve delays, as summarized in my thread(s) below. Embedded in this thread is another thread started by me, so there is commentary inclusive for both Rods and Mains.

Rod Bearing alignment of edges off

I now have 1400 miles on my rebuild, with things so far generally behaving as I had hoped and spec’d.

As someone who has just had the red glyco box GT3 bearings, mahle/clevite, and the genuine porsche ones all in hand, I would only use the genuine Porsche 996 GT3 bearings. They are different than the glyco ones and the mahle/clevite are too thick (measured them in the micrometer).

Clearances I got on std/std

Glyco: .0021”
AA Mahle/Clevite: .0013”
GT3 genuine: .0028”

If you are interested, I will sell you my AA bearings. They were too tight for my build but will be fine for a stock rebuild.

Interesting that Clevite bearings wound up at .0013". The ones I got for my build ended up around .0025" I believe (measured by my machine shop, not by me).

I understand that the Clevite bearings come in an "extra clearance" version as well. I got the regular ones.

I had no idea they came in that option. I had a friend at a shop order them for me.

I did genuine Porsche GT3 rod bearings 17,000 miles ago.

Expensive but no issues 5 years And maybe 2000 track miles later.

@r lane

I used GT3 rod bearings for 3.0 SC which I recently completed. You can see little marks where the bearings were measured, giving me some confidence that they should be in spec. They also come well packaged in their own plasic bag so as not to get damaged during shipping.

The part number I ordered was 996-103-121-94. They come as individual half-bearings, not as a set.

I originally ordered the cheap Glyco bearing from our host but I was not happy with how they were packaged by the manufacturer, and I read many post about those being out of spec. The packaging on the Glyco bearings said they were made in South Africa, not Germany. I returned them and spent the money on Porsche bearings.
