911sc crank oil gallery plugs
HI,
I am after some advice from the experts. I am a novice and have been very slowly refurbishing a '80 sc engine over the last few years. The engine had been rebuilt previously with the PO using silicon sealant everywhere. Small bits of silicon had collected in the spray bars blocking a few of the holes, which was a concern, so i went deep in cleaning all oil galleries to ensure nothing was trapped, including having the oil gallery plugs removed from the crank and the holes tapped for grub screws. On completing the assembly, i noticed this unsealed/unplugged hole in the rear of the crank. I think it would usually be covered by the pilot bearing, but I dont have any photos of the area during the strip down, so am not sure what it was like previously. I assume i need a grub screw and loctite to seal the hole, but am also wondering if there is any other function? Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers ![]() |

agree it needs to be plugged.
I am wondering what its original purpose was, as it doesn't appear to be connected to an oil gallery, at lease as best as i can tell. Does anyone know the location of all crankshaft plugs? cheers Ben |

The purpose is to intersect another oil passage to feed the bearings when the crank is built, there’s 9 plugs, this one, the other hidden one is at the bottom of the fan pulley threaded hole on the other end, and the obvious ones on the cheeks.
