The new rebuild book
just got the new rebuild book and read through and feel like a frickin expert---just kidding. Very good source and a must for anyone who is considering a rebuild whether you are doing it yourself or not.
Now here is my question for you porscheafiles. I have a 73 1/2 911T and am getting ready for a rebuild. I read about the upgrade in Andersons book to 2.7 pistons and cylinders but he only gives a blip upon it and then starts to rant and rave about how most porsche mechanics think any combos go together. I didn't see a recommendation in Waynes book for the 73 CIS T upgrade. does this mean it should be brought back strictly stock or should go with the 2.7 and if I do, what do I gain and/or lose by doing it. Also, what about this polishing of the exhaust ports on the heads. Is that going to really make a difference or is it a waste of money in my little T. I look forward to you guys giving me some input. Here's my take on it. The 1973 1/2 911T case is somewhat rare - it is the only 7R reinforced case that has the 2.4 spigots. I think I mention this in the book.
7R 2.7 cases are a dime a dozen, but the 2.4 cases are easily worth $500 or so because the racers want them to be as strong as possible. So, in this case, (no pun intended), don't bore out your 2.4 and destroy it, but instead purchase a 2.7 case and use that one instead. Core 2.7 long block motors can be found for $500 just about anywhere (try eBay). -Wayne |
