I would be interested if only to right the ship for all those that paid in full up front. Would not take this on unless I had partner(s).

Would have to see what is salvageable and if that was worth the time. If it required a complete start over, I would not be interested.

I am with you. It was something we looked at many years ago. The choice to create a 964 case was interesting.....

Regardless, if you pursue, and are interested in partners, let me know.

I've seen / heard of several shop owners stand up to say something similar. Would be amazing to see this project come to fruition.

A few years back, we also pursued the possibility of reproducing a sand cast Porsche case. Our motivation revolved around a desire to replicated the 3.0 RSR case with slight cylinder spigot modifications so that a 964/993 stud spacing could be achieved. Imagine a sand cast 911 case that would replace the 2.0 aluminum case, 2.2-2.7 mag case and provide a platform for all manner of 911 air-cooled applications. We were aware of the weight challenges but our hope was that the final machining could be fine tuned to address weight issue wherever possible.
We had everything in place from pattern design/fabrication to casting [Buddy Bar Casting in LA] to tooling to final machining. I consulted with Dean Polopolus [an employee and good friend for decades] about all of the trials and tribulations surrounding his Polo case and he painted a pretty formidable scenario.
While sitting in the office of Buddy Bar with a briefcase full of cash and a head full of Dean's daunting stories, I balked, shook Bill's hand and abandoned the endeavor. 200 man-hrs lost but I'm certain years of anxiety averted.

Our explorations were all billet at the time, because that is what were doing... That said, we have some good foundries here that could help out. At the end of the day we were looking at 3.0-3.2 cases and not 964.

We did not spend 200 hours, but we spent a fair amount of time.... We were doing this back when we created the 17 inch Fuchs, now a Fikse product and on the likes of Singer and other boutique cars....

I am still interested in pursuing it as it is still "unfinished business" to me....

Catorce was on the right path - an investment casting (lost wax) that's been HIP'd and thermocycled would make a much nicer case than what Porsche was pouring in the 70s. However, I had my doubts when I saw he was charging $5k for them. There is no business case at that price point, and I assumed he was independently wealthy and in search of a way to spend buckets of cash with minimal return.
