twin plug triggering devise
Wanting to use a 3.6 twin dist in a earlier 3.0 engine build, What do you guys use as a trigging devise for the ignition system. Does anyone sell a Hall effect unit that can be mounted in the dist. ? Looking for something simple yet dependable. That maybe able to use 993 style module and coils. Thanks

I use a hall effect sensor on the case and magnets in the stock pulley.
You are on your own about mounting a hall effect inside the distributor. I have converted a 3.0 to Crane optical trigger before to run in an early car. Wasn't too difficult. Could probably do the same on a 3.6. The challenge is that the timing belt takes up a lot of space where you would mount the pass-through window wheel and sensor. |
JB Racing has 12 point distributors with internal triggering for the 3.0. opposite rotation direction so hard to use the 3.6 distr.

Cheapest method to trigger twin plug is scrapyard Ford EDIS parts, a crank trigger and Mega Jolt JR. You can also do Mega Squirt crank trigger for "ignition only", and have future FI. Used Clewett systems come up for sale, made by Tec, GM coils. Both Clewett and SDS EFI offer ignition only new systems. Then you're into twin plug dizzys. |
Supertec has a few different options. 27mm and 30mm shaft, CCW and CW and Bosch or Marelli. A plethora of distributors on the shelf.
