Need input on oil coolers
Hi All,
I need to buy a new oil cooler for my -71T. Need your help... 1) What is now the brand of the Porsche original oil coolers? (It is not BEHR from what I can see) 2) Are there any brands recommended apart from the above? 3) Anyone that had problems with fitment or performance of any brand? Thanks for any input. Engine oil cooler or front fender oil cooler?
|
No complaints from Pelicans that have upgraded to the CSF Performance Oil Coolers, they recently released the upgraded fender oil cooler which fits like factory, they also have some single and dual pass oil coolers that mount in the front bumper.
|
The -71T only has the engine oil cooler.

Have you considered a trombone oil cooler, they usually are cheap.

I’m looking for an original setup.

The trombone oil cooler was original on US SC and Euro used the 28 row brass oil cooler
|
Mine is a 1971 911T. So it has the aluminum oil cooler on the engine.

I'm referring to auxiliary oil coolers located in the front right wheel well which would be in addition to your cooler that is bolted to your engine

oops, sorry

There are two types of engine oil coolers. The difference is how the oil line attaches. The early (71 and early) have a threaded fitting and that is the style you want. The 73-later have a "hose fitting" attachment for the "S" hose and will not be compatible with your early oil cooler.
Depending on where the leak is, you could have the original one welded/repaired. I Have bought a few used coolers after pressure/leak testing with good results. Have not purchased any "new" ones. |

So it will be a new one. Porsche original or repro is what I’m trying to decide. Thanks for all input! Jorgen |
I used Google Europe and found an after market 901-107-041-03 oil cooler on partsworks.de.
partworks.de/en-en-en-en-en-partworks-de-porsche-911-f-65-73-3-engine-cooling-oil-cooler-engine-oil-for-porsche-911-f-t-e-s-2-0-2-2-912-1-6.html#&gid=1&pid=1 (add https:// to the beginning) This cooler does not have the same zebra fin area and it appears to have less fin area especially from the bottom. Pelican Engine Oil Cooler 901-107-041-03-OEM Compare the photos closely. I would buy an original Porsche cooler over the one offered by partworks.de. |
I bought the European made aftermarket cooler from Stoddard 6 years ago. Perfect fit and no leaks. SIC 107 041 02. Expensive but worth it.

But a new one is a good choice unless you are 110% that a used has come of a healthy engine and has no debris in it. |
