Newbie question
 

I am going to attempt to rebuild a 1970 911 E engine. ( first timer).
Dont want to go with the MFI , so my question is , can I use Zenith carbs ? And if so
What p/c set up would I need ? ( not a fancy build, basically close to stock set up )

Your E P&Cs will work
The carbs were made for the 2.2 T and there was never much made available to increase carb size.
Spend money on Webers if you’re going that route..
The MFI on the E motor is much more desirable
The throttle bodies on E injection can be bored where 72 T throttle bodies are limited to increase size.

Are you selling the MFI? The car is worth much more with the MFI.

I used Zentihs on my 2.4 build as I already had them. You can get most of the parts for Zeniths from user on Ebay that goes by Alpha1750. They have different venturis and jets as well as rebuild kits avalible. I have a 2.4 with 9.5 to 1 JE pistons, Ecams and headers and larger port heads. I removed and plugged the air enrichment function on Zeniths and tuned the carb with wide band 02. Had to change to larger venturis and main jets to get correct AF mixtures other wise works quite well. I had a 2.7 with webers in the car before the 2.4. Did not find tuning and set up much different between webers and zeniths, both are take some fiddling.

Hello Francois,which coast are you on?I was looking at a friends car for sale in the classifieds and jus got on here for the hell of it.I'm a veteran Pcar mechanic who spends very little time online.I've done motors for all Porsches from 356's thru all the air-cooled 911's and 914's,now I'm fixing lots 0f 996 motors.DO NOT put carbs on your car.Stick with stock everything.Carbs,all carbs are awful.The only time you might choose carbs is for a track car with big cams which will be totally undriveable anyway,but especially cold.There are many fuel injection alternatives,my favorite being the one from Bitz.It's very reasonably priced,and for practical upgrades,paired with an MSD ignition,you can make a very reliable daily driver out of your 911.But give your stock stuff a chance first.I will happily give you realistic,economical advice on how to bring this car back to life.Just remember being an old european car means it's not going to be that economical on the best day.Text or email me with any questions anytime.2066192319,seattle.email:rg3po@comacst.net ,Cheers,Roy

Having had the original mfi off my 70S for carbs for a period of time it runs so much better with the mfi back on. And yes the carbs were well tuned but the mfi is so much better.
