Looking for P201 Engine Yoke Source
 

Hello, I am planning a to do a top end rebuild on a 3.2 and struggling to find a reliable source for a quality P201 Yoke. It looks like our host is no longer offering this tool, so I would appreciate some input on recommended sources. Thanks in advance.

Check eBay. It’s been six years but that’s where I found my excellent P201 clone with correct semi-circular flange; Chinese-made. There are lighter-duty versions but I think they’d represent a false economy.

You'll have to go with Henry's suggestion as I tried to find the yoke here on Pelican and it is not there any more. Ironically, there is a picture of it on the link to the Porsche specialty tools but no yoke listed.

If you're looking for lower cost options, as suggested search eBay. I bought a 5 arm one a couple years ago, quite inexpensive. It's quite sturdy, not cheaply made at all. Couldn't find it just now, not sure if that shop is still making them.

I list the company with some reservation (personal experience) as I find this Chinese manufacturer to have some Quality control issues but for this product, they are cost effective.

All sold out. Make a WTB ad in the parts forsale forum and you'll probably find a member who has one in the garage they won't be needing.

If you can wait I just ordered the steel last week to make the simple U shape adapter that can be used on any auto parts store engine stand.

I'm waiting on the water jet company to tell me the cost to cut. I'm make 10 of these to start.

I think I saw a post here once that there was a clearance issue with the oil cooler? Mine is a race engine with the cooler deleted. It worked well for me.

I made one like that, IIRC the center arm interferes with putting the T4 #3 piston pin in. I had to modify, notch the arm.
I also made my 996 mount.

I believe the same vendor makes 3 and 4 arm yokes, in case that would help with what mentions above

Those thin flanged mounts do not allow you to mount the engine with the oil cooler and rear sheet metal installed...

We have 3 and use them for our gearbox builds. Work perfect for that. There is a reason we have 4 P201 mounts. Get a P201 or decent replica for engines.... Then you can likely sell it here on the classifieds when you no longer need it.

Any follow up on the QSC yoke? It looks like there is only one model for the “911” as far as I can see. “QSC 356 911 930 914” looks like a reasonable alternative

We have 6 of them (proper thick flange ones), from various supppliers. Forgot where we go them all. A couple we have ground some reliefs into to make them work perfect. Simple to do.

We have 3 flat flange ones and use them on 912/356 motors and gearboxes only.

I do believe or M96/97 ones (4) are from QSC and they all worked perfect out of the box.

Jeff - as a relative noob headed towards my fist engine drop to do the clutch, any recommendation for the engine stand. Plan on addressing some back of the engine items as well as setting valves, and new oil return tubes. I'd like to get a reasonable stand that is easy to maneuver and allow access where I need it...

I have the standard Harbor Freight stand, works fine for me with the 911 yoke.

For a stand, get one with a square leg design, not a "Y" or one with a leg down the center. The square leg style allow you to move a floor jack or lift table into the center to lift the engine to a height where you can slide the yoke into the stand....

It folds up into a compact rollable form and is more than strong enough. Plus, I can get my HF table in place to put the engine on or get it off the stand.

Thanks for input - managed to stumble across a stand that is exactly what you have recommended. 2nd best part is that it is free... :)

I'm working in a small 1 car garage. The collapsible stand (from HF) is a blessing. When not in use, it is tucked away in a corner. The head also allows me to use a partial ring; instead of the full yoke. I had to cut some spacers, from iron plumbing pipe to mount the adapter and the first time, it took a couple of iterations in getting it centered just right.

I lift the engine with a chain hoist and trolley, suspended from an 'I' beam. A little overkill, but makes the job easy.
