Looks good! I had my Carrera cylinders bored and plated by US Chrome. One came back pitted in several places. Luckily a friend had just bought new cylinders so I had a free core that matched. all in I think it was around $1500 to use existing cylinders and over 6 months of time. Not to scare you into spending more money but I think I'd go with the P&C JE set if I were you. That's what I'm planning for my 2.7 build. Definitely avoid the cheap iron cylinders.

I appreciate the insight! We inspected the Mahle RS pistons and cylinders that were on the car when I got it - rings weren't seated and the cylinders still had cross hatching so going to reuse them. Speaking with DR cams, my mechanic and a few others, not sure the extra expense of JEs is justifiable at this point. Perhaps in the future! Definitely no iron P&Cs either way

More updates...

Gauges from John Bell look so good I'm afraid to unwrap them! No clock as going with the obnoxious oil pressure light :)

Also got a few pieces gold cad plated, turned out great! I prefer it to zinc if there's a professional shop around that can do it - getting rare these days...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1652977433.jpg

Deleting bumperettes and flares going on - fitment is exactly what I wanted with the wheels. A small drop and should be good to go.

Nice Build…

I have a similar build pending time to get to it, please let us know how the engine and short geared 915 work together.

I am particularly interested in the 915, I kept 1st stock since it’s low enough and went with 15:30 (2.00) 2nd, 21:31 (1.476) 3rd, 24:27 (1.125) 4th and 28.24 (.857) 5th. I was worried about high rpm’s on the Highway in 5th, so I kept 5th close to stock.

I will keep you posted!

Curious if anyone knows how much a set of JE 9.5:1 P&C run these days? LN has them for 6k+ is that the going rate now??

This is what I'm seeing. Are there any other options?

You can get the pistons by themselves and use a set of good used or replated cylinders. That would be a much cheaper option.

A few bits and bobs trickled in so couldn't help but mock them up. Really liking the smoked rain hats, light too!

911 SLANT 07-25-2022 08:21 PM

I built my 1971 911S that weighs 2000lbs with a 1976 2.7 mag case to a 2.8 with J&E 92mm pistons 9:5.1 With a mod S cam and 46mm PMOs with ported heads. RSR headers and 997 GT3 muffler. Had my gauges also done by John Bell. 7:31 R&P. Very quick! Car weighs 2000 lbs.Haven't had it dyno yet, but expected to hit 250hp. Good luck with build.

Thanks for the info, great data point. Really struggling with justifying another 6k for JE P&C. I'll be happy with 210ish for now :)

Definitely reducing some weight. HVAC, rear seat delete, lightweight ST style front seats, sunroof delete etc. Hope to be around the same weight as yours all said and done.

Save $3500 - replate your cylinders and use JE pistons

No doubt Nickies are a fine product, but I think it worth considering sending your cylinders to EBS for a bore/replate, for about $1200. The JE pistons run about $1200.
This is the route i am going, along with Craig Garrett's head work, including twin plugging and X factory EDIS ignition, MS2 Megasquirt with PMO EFI.
(With a lot of help from "Trackrash".
Regards,
chris

I've read a number of threads with questionable feedback and stories about the plating going awry. Not sure I'm ready for the risk for a minor gain in hp to be honest (since I'm single plug anyway). Perhaps more research is required...

That's awesome! They look absolutely killer. Thank you for sharing that. Went ahead and placed an order for a set of smoked.

Wow you act quick! Please post some pictures once you've got them installed

In other news, tackled my floor sound deadening yesterday - wasn't too bad with a hot air gun and a sharp chisel. Came off clean and thankfully no rust!

Removed the interior firewall sound pad as well, that thing is heavy...

Ok first minor snag hoping I can get some clarification from those who have walked in these shoes before...

While mocking up the Guard LSD, found out I will need longer ring gear bolts. Gave Matt from Guard a call and confirmed there is a specific LSD bolt set I can buy from Porsche but he couldn't remember the exact part number and silly me I forgot to write down the number he thought it could be.

Looks like the ideal length would be around 25mm but I can't find any Porsche ring gear bolts that are 12x25mm long. The closest I could find is 928 332 276 03 which is 12x21mm - would that work for a '77 915? Stock bolts are 16mm and far too short.

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/92833227603.htm?pn=928-332-276-03-OEM

Some pics of a stock bolt mocked up to the guard unit, any guidance is appreciated!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1660618946.jpg
