Well something special came in today, 911R wheel from Classico Wheels. Thank you Jeffrey for the awesome work and even better conversation!

Still looking for any input on ring gear bolts but I bit the bullet and bought the 21mm ones :)

sportsbeetle 08-23-2022 10:08 AM

Did some frunk cleanup while I wait for the new dash harness from Dennis.

Case also showed up from Ollie's so things should move now! Time to Marine Tex all the plugs per Wayne's book.

Nice build so far. Where did you get the vent block off plates?

Or did you make them?

Thanks,

Thanks! The same gentleman who tig welded my flares was kind enough to roll them for me. If there is interest here, I can ask if he'd be interested in making more. Fit is excellent.

Yes. I would be interested in the fresh air blower vent block off plate. I don't have AC, so no need there.

Can you tell me how thick the sheet metal is and how you sealed it against the opening?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Sheet metal on mine is 18 gauge but can be done in thinner sheet. I used sikaflex 291 but any flexible adhesive sealant would work.

I asked and he's open to making more, $70 + shipping.

18 gauge sounds good. Can you email me via Pelican to follow up on this part?

Thanks for your help.

Hey there, don't see an email in your post and for some reason PM isn't going through. Please email me at ebbyadavid@gmail.com if you'd still like one made.

In other news, progress is slowly being made. Supertec head studs are works of art...

Thanks for having faith in our product, you won't be dissapointed.

One of the best features of the Supertec head stud is the ability to install the piston and cylinders without interference from the studs. You can actually install the studs after you install the P&C combo. Image the time that will save not to mention the ease at which the wrist pin clip can be installed. You still have to be careful not to let it fly into the engine but the easy access really makes a difference. The blue thread locker that comes in the kit allows for easy removal of the studs if you want to try our innovative technique.

Wow thanks Henry for this post, I didn't think to try it that way. Very cool!! Thanks for all you do on this forum, especially for newbies like me.

As noted, it doesn't matter, but it lets the close-eyed know it was rebuilt.

That was the intention in case the car is ever sold. Waynes book also shows it that way and I read through a couple of threads saying either way works. Figured showing it is rebuilt from the outside outweighs originality since this car isn't numbers matching anyway.

Fun weekend at cars and coffee, pretty rare duck for this neck of the woods - real 73 RS

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. I haven't been on Pelican for awhile. I sent you an email about the fresh air blower vent block off plate.

Thanks,

Thanks for posting this, and the Supertec studs.

What was the turnaround time with Ollie this summer? I just split the case on my 2.7 and it was half helicoil and red loctite hell!

No worries, hopefully all goes well on my end, and if not, it'll be here for everyone to laugh at lol

Case was in line at Ollie's in December, got it back late August so it was about an 8-9 month turn around time, quite a while...

Best of luck with yours!

sportsbeetle 09-28-2022 05:11 PM

Getting a little antsy waiting for some parts to arrive so decided to mock up the gauges. They're something else...

More progress! Transmission is done and looks great considering this isn't a six figure clean room build; just "regular Joes" in a little shop from a small Canadian town. It was also covered is nasty paint before the rebuild so cleaning the case was a major chore.

Many thanks to Guard, CMS and Wevo for the guidance along the way!

Great progress on the build. I’m doing the same with my transmission build but I dropped it off at CMS. Can’t trust my self to do it on my own. And too many special tools needed.

I have the Wevo gate shift as well let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks and will do. Honestly I'm more excited about the transmission than the engine lol

Curious to see how this combination of Guard LSD, short gears, and supporting mods runs on the street and track. Hoping to hit the ridge a couple times next season.

She's off to get an engine after over a year of hibernation.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665246023.jpg

Jeff Alton 10-08-2022 03:41 PM

So, where is it going for an engine rebuild?

sportsbeetle 10-08-2022 07:08 PM

Local indy here

sportsbeetle 01-06-2023 09:39 PM

Small update - added Turbokraft rocker shaft locks with the Aasco valve springs. Dennis's engine harness is on, still working on body and dash harness. Len's fuel lines in.

Almost there, next step is mounting the PMOs and M&K headers+muffler (when they show up). Lots of hurry up and wait!

I'm embarrassed to post these pics in comparison to some of the epic builds I've seen on here but she's a driver and my first PCar build so a little rough around the edges :)

Dan, appreciate the kind words!
The wheels are made by Group 4 Wheels run by Jonathan Sage - he was great to work with. I only wish we had better tire options for 15s besides cost prohibitive vintage ones. I much prefer the look of 15s on early cars, this will eventually be a longhood backdate.

Jonathan's instagram is here: https://instagram.com/group4wheels?igshid=OGQ2MjdiOTE=

sportsbeetle 01-20-2023 06:21 PM

Slow but steady progress. The only thing holding us up now is the M&K exhaust, been waiting 7 months now :(
PS - not a fan of the tow hook, and not sure how trustworthy that jack point is so it's probably going.

Minor hiccup this week - the PMO manifolds have cast ports for vacuum but they aren't drilled and tapped. Since I want to retain the boosted brakes with consistent pedal feel + a clean engine bay, decided to go with an OEM application electric vacuum pump setup (Hella UP5.0 based system). Not cheap and probably a little overkill but oh well!

In other news, trying to figure out a way to better mount the coil and came up with this. Glad I went with the black MSD as well.

sportsbeetle 03-01-2023 10:33 PM

Well first start went well. Just waiting on an MSD tach module and a couple heater hose 90 degree elbows to wrap up this project...until the longhood backdate anyway.

All parts sourced for the backdate thanks to TRE and likely a color change to aubergine.

Well corner balanced. Another 200lb to loose; hopefully the longhood with glass bumpers will help that.

Do you mind me asking where you went for the corner balancing? I'm also in the Victoria area and would like to get that done.

Your car is looking great by the way, I'm looking forward to seeing it around!

Gary did mine but there are many local options - Tires Unlimited, Big O, Forward
Thanks for the kind words, stop by Oak Bay Euro C&C some time!

sportsbeetle 04-15-2023 06:33 PM

Well we are just about 150 miles into break-in. Some minor issues but overall great. Had to switch from points to pertronix and need to get the carbs dialed in a bit more but man does she rip!

The Guard short gears and LSD were the right call. Pulls strong to 4k thanks to gearing but keeping it under 4500 for the first ~600 miles so I'm not sure what it feels like to be on cam yet! Excited to stretch her legs after break-in.

Finally got the interior done too, starting to feel like a car again. One thing I might reconsider is the muffler - while it sounds amazing, will probably be too loud for the wife on road trips. Might have to go with a street m&k muffler.

Overall, absolutely no regrets with this little ripper!
Hope this thread helps a fellow Pelicanite with their 2.7/915 build.
Both need more love in the community and have a charm that is uniquely different from a 3.2/G50 car.
