ONE bent exhaust valve?
G'day
I bought the car as is (98 911 Cabrio), and on dismantling the motor found 2 recently reconditioned heads BUT with ONE bent exhaust valve. They operate in pairs, the piston is symmetrical how does only one valve get bent and not 2? Kinda puzzled. Actually the whole motor is a mystery. I have a crank and 3 conrods (4,5 &6). Bores are good for a 200 000 km car but all other internals are missing. The inside of the motor is spotless and not a trace of carbon on the heads. The outside of the motor has the dirt from every one of those 200 000 km. There was still assy lube on the lifters and cams. |

Valves bend when the engine is overreved and the spring can't keep up with the RPMs in closing the valve. At that point it can be random as to which valve(s) are the ones that hit the piston. Could be any or all of them.
Look at the top of your pistons for divots suggesting valve contact. If it was a minor overrev, some valves may have made light contact but didn't bend. Last edited by stownsen914; 04-23-2022 at 07:05 AM.. |

Upon reading again, not clear if you have the pistons! Could be a grab bag motor. Just assess everything and reuse/refurbish as appropriate.
