Which pistons and cylinders for 3.8?
Ok - question for my 3.8 build. If you had to choose between these 2 piston/cylinder sets, which ones would you go with? Due to some previous mishaps - my case had to be bored to 109mm machine in cylinders, so these are the 2 options I am looking at. One is 4032 and the other is 2618. This will be mostly a street car - hope to put a few miles on it.
This is the 2618 LN Nickies and Mahle combo for a 3.9 https://lnengineering.com/porsche-911-36l-to-39l-964-993-1989-1998-machine-in-mahle-cylinder-and-piston-set.html This is the 4032 all mahle P+C set for a 3.8 https://lnengineering.com/shop-by-model/porsche-964-993/porsche-993-rsr-36l-to-38l-o109mm-cyl-mahle-cylinder-and-piston-set.html Basically the bottom 2 options from this: https://www.us.mahle.com/media/usa/motorsports/porsche-air-cooled-3-6l-2022-web-new-look.pdf |
Ask Charles at LN what he recommends based on you planned build and use of the engine.

If it were me, I would go with Mahle for a couple reasons. You can run tighter piston to cylinder clearances with 4032 and Mahle generally lasts longer. Second I was told by certain builders that they don’t recommend going over 102.7mm due to roundness issues. Both points are debatable but my vote would be Mahle option of the 2 choices presented.
