Will 3.6 cam towers work on a 3.2
Hello. I am building a 3.2 from parts. I have all I need except cam towers. I am unable to find 4 journal towers from a 3.0 or 3.2. I have a chance to buy a set of 3.6 towers. I know they will bolt up, but what are my other obstacles here? I have a pair of 3.0 camshafts I plan on having ground to 964 specs for this motor as well. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Harvey,
The last of the 3.2's came with cam towers with 964.XXX.XXX part numbers. However they were fitted with 8mm studs for the 3.2 cam covers rather than the 6mm studs used on the 3.6. I don't know if there were any other differences. https://i.imgur.com/ISCOa2g.jpg |
The cam oil lines are not tapped for the oil lines.

they can be converted to work, Henry has done it for me a few times

Switching to 6mm studs is a simple DIY (aka don't worry much about the time it will take to change 34 of them, removing existing ones and screwing in dual threaded studs, or installing an 8mm to 6mm insert) job.
Dealing with the oiling might be reserved for guys like Henry as a practical matter? |
I'm not certain if anyone has posted this but a customer asked if he could use 964 cam towers on a conventional 3.0 engine.
The issue was cam feed lines and here's what we did. The obvious benefit of 964 /993 valve covers and the increasing availability (or lack there of) for 3.0/3.2 cam towers. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1648520542.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1648520542.JPG |
