Rebuilding a 2.4L 1973 911T
Hey all - My 1973 911T Targa 2.4L has leakdown in 4 cylinders and I'm trying to figure out what to do next. The car was a gift from my wife for my 40th birthday present and I know I need to rebuild the engine but my mechanic just told me that with the mag case I should expect a rebuild cost to be somewhere around $50k. I'm in the NY area where everything is more expensive, but this seems really high to me. Anyone else have any recent experience with rebuilding a 2.4L? At that price I feel like I should put in a 3.0L and rebuild the 2.4 myself or put it on a shelf once properly stored for long term. Any advice would be welcome!

Hey samcox,
yep you are right , that is very expensive . If you you PM me I can put you in touch with some one who has been building fantastic 911 engines since 1982 . He is in Bear DE He owns the shop, has a great reputation and very reasonable . Ian

For 50k you can buy a complete rebuilt S engine.
https://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/showthread.php?163720-%9172-2-4-S-engine I think closer to 20-25k for a rebuild.
