IMS Bearing

I am now to Porsche and was cautioned to check this bearing out. I have a 1999 911 triptronic. All seems to be running and showing well on the oil gauge, pressure is good, etc. Don't hear anything. Asked the mechanic about any metal in oil he said nothing more than normal(?).
Short of taking it apart how can I check it?
Thanks
Bill

I'm not sure if it applies to this situation, but doing some searching i found this thread where a user used an inspection camera to view the IMS bearing and inspect the seals. Perhaps it could work for checking for wear?

996 NA's Achilles's heel was the dreaded IMS bearing. Did the car come with a maintenance history and/or receipts? There were various fixes over the years, and this late in the game the work was likely done before.

996 Turbos had the Mezger engine and have an entirely different arrangement that does not fail catastrophically.

This is not a 964 or993 motor. Have the oil analyzed and filter analyzed by a Porsche expert. Best, Mark
