3.2 to 3.4

Hello, I'm having a rebuild done on my 3.2. The pistons/cylinders are out of spec and need to be replaced. I'm wondering what the better choice would be. Stick to a 3.2 or go to a 3.4? Would keep everything else the same. Any downside in going to a 3.4? Street only (I think my attempts on the track may have caused my problems!

Lots of posts on getting it done. Have the cylinders done and buy the max moritz pistons. Cost less than a new set of factory p&c’s and a bump in power through displacement and compression. I’ve never heard of a downside to the bump.

If your cylinders are done and will need work anyway, it's not that much more to just have them bored out. A new set of pistons will be similarly priced for 95 vs 98mm, so why not.

Plenty of piston options once bored. CP, JE, MAHLE to name a few. Ensure the cylinder wall finish matches the recommendation of the piston/ring manufacturer.

Cheers

Warning! You are peering down the slippery slope and at high risk of "why you're there" modifications!

If you manage to maintain self control and limit the modifications to rebored and replated cylinders and new pistons and rings, I suggest you factor in the cost of a new Steve Wong chip as well.

I'm trying to stay focused on just the P/C's. It's hard:)

I think the cylinders are warped so need to replace both. Any preference of manufacturer? Mahle or JE etc?

Cylinders will be bored and plated. I like CP and JE for pistons as well as Mahle. CP makes custom pistons for us for watercooled motors with our own part numbers. I like their attention to detail
That does not mean the others do not produce high quality products, just we have a relationshiop with CP. There are a couple of companies that can bore and replate the cylinders. Mahle also sells new 98mm cylinders. We have gone this route as well. That allows you to sell your existing cylinders as cores for someone who need cylinders to bore and replate.

Cheers
