question on oil pump pickup tube play

Question on my SC oil pump. Should the pickup tube have play where it enters the pump body? Mine has 2mm play where I can rotate the tube and about 2mm play in and out of the pump body.

Seems like this play could be by design ensure the pickup tube fits just right into the sump filter screen, which is a separate, non attached part. This is not the later attached screen design.

Is this play a design feature, a problem, or nothing?

Mine has very little of the black material left (shown on this pump).

Thx

Shouldn’t wiggle. Remove pickup and re-epoxy.

Just make sure to clock it correctly when you epoxy back in

I did, thanks. Assembled with epoxy, bolted into the case half, installed the oil strainer and let dry overnight to ensure it was aligned.

I think the oil pump sucks oil up from the sump through a pipe - called a pickup pipe. The pipe's nozzle sits below the surface of the oil, and it is covered by a guaze filter which prevents large particles from being sucked up into the pump. Monkey App
