2.2T to 2.7 P's and C's?
A friend bought an old mix-match car that had been sitting for something like 25 years. He got it running but looks like tensioner failure caused some major damage. So, he's considering going to 2.7 P's and C's (from advice from a friend) but I'm not sure it would work with T cams and Zenith carbs. I think he should stick with 2.2 pistons and cylinders to keep it straight forward. And, only one piston grenaded so replace one or all? I know, con rods are replaced by weight so are pistons the same?

Lots of options, obviously. I had a 2,2 increased to 2,5 using 2,7 p&cs. Problem is you have to bore the case spigots and heads to match those cylinders. Some say this is not the best solution, but I never had any trouble for decades and 90k miles with lots of tracking.
I will say that those 2,2 T motors are a really sweet running motor even stock. IF the cylinders are all perfect, staying 2,2 may be a good option. If not and you want more power, then it's just how far you want to go and how much you want to spend. Boring the stock cylinders out, new higher compression pistons, E cams, and a sport muffler, would be a reasonable upgrade.

Yea, you make some good points. I built a 911 race car from a '69 tub and every area that was improved meant improving everything around it. I'll push my friend to stick to 2.2 as much as reasonable. Today, we're going up to see this guy that has a warehouse full, probably 60 years worth, of air cooled Porsche parts. This should also help decide the outcome.

The zenith carbs are the weak spot (imho). I would spend the money on webers/PMOs before upping displacement. A bump in compression along with cams and head/valve work can make for a sweet running 2.2 in combination with a carb upgrade.
