Can this NOS crankshaft be saved?
Below are some pictures of the 66mm crank. Will polishing clear all the rust out or does it require extensive repair?

Just do it and find out. Hopefully no spun bearing damage.

Clean it first and mag it to see if its cracked. Then measure the journal sizes. Could save the time and cost to polish it, if its damaged.

I haven't bought it yet, hence my question. Does it look like it's been used? |
Looks like there's a rod bearing half still on a journal in the last pic, so probably used???

It seems to me that the area for the No. 8 bearing sleeve is quite rusty, maybe even pitted, whereas the rest of the crank is not too bad. Is this worth saving or scrap? |
Hard to see without higher definition pics, so this is strictly speculation. I don't know if it all would polish out, but it seems to me that would clean up with a .25 or .5 mm turn under. I would think turning the crank .5 mm (.020) would clean all that up. Most definitely would not be scrap to me. Even if a journal had excessive pitting, that can be repaired.

Thanks guys.

If it was me I’d pass. That crank pin closest to number eight main appears to have marks on it like it spun a bearing. The whole thing looks pretty poor, I’d say you’re better off spending the extra money on an excellent one. My two cents anyways

Spun bearing is obvious and ugly. I'd tend to agree with Neil Harvey on checking it out first.
