I also had quality issues with replated cylinders, and made the very hard decision to buy Mahle pistons and cylinders new. It's a real disincentive to pay good money for parts, and be sent parts that will not function.

Maybe we should send them to this guy.

If anyone were to ask me now on advice on getting bigger bore cylinders I would advise to buy new Mahles and not take the chance with bored and plated cylinders at all. The cost of an unnecessary rebuild (2 rebuilds in my case) by far outweighs the cost saving of buying from lowest bidder

Trond, I totally agree!

A friend of mine suffered exactly from that. The engine was rebuilded at a very good known classic porsche engine rebuilding service in Germany who also offers cylinder boring and plating. After some years – where guess what, ... all was out of warranty – problems did occur and when opening the engine the tragedy came up.

So, ... that is maybe the price if 100% believing in "experts".

Reading this thread makes me glad I bought new Mahle pistons and cylinders for my recent custom build.

Re plating P/C

Any body have experience with LN cylinders ? they claim to have 87.5 cylinders that will slip right in a non- cut original case.

and mine came from US Chrome too. They claim no problem with the cylinder and that it will be fine.

The other 5 look fine and meassure fine on the profilometer
