88 carerra cam timing
Hope I'm not splitting hairs here but the closest I can get with the overlap
is .046 on both sides. Bentley says .o49 or 1.25mm. From what I have read the movemnt of one pin is .005. Am I wrong or is this gonna work at this overlap? TKS for any advice. |

You can rock the pin in the same hole and get a slightly different reading.

Cam Timing..........
Quote:
Hermanator, As you have experienced, the change in value from one slot to the next (left or right slot) is approximately +/- 0.08 mm (0.003”). So no matter how much you try to get your target cam timing dialed, it will still be off by a lot. Do not despair. You could get both cams timed within +/- (0.01 mm) of your goal by changing the timing chain and camshaft sprocket orientation. This is discussed in the Engine Rebuilding Workshop during cam timing work. Are you using a degree wheel for your cam timing with a digital dial indicators or just the visual crankcase seam and crankshaft pulley method? They both work but one is more convenient than the other. Tony |

The best I could do on my '89 was 1.26mm. It seems to run ok.
