Oil tank fitting

Hi guys,

I'm having a real hard time installing a new oil tank on my 1973T (mfi).
The old oil tank has to be replaced due to the fact that it is very rusty en leaking oil.
The original tank is hard to find (originally sportomatic) but I am told the newer tanks should also fit.
After a few different tries, I still haven't been able to get the tank past the metal bracket on the right rear fender... What am I doing wrong. Should I drop the suspension and perhaps remove the right rear light assembly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

David

The tank like yours, 74—-> is taller than the 73 tank, it will take a fiddling to fit it.

The early tank oil filler and filter console are removable and with the narrow body it’s necessary
The later tank has larger area to install as the filler is part of the tank.
