WOW, Nasty Sulfur Smell

I'm rebuilding my 3.0L. The engine had been open for maybe a week and no real smell other that used oill. As I was pulling the engine through bolts out this strong sulfur stink appeared. Seems like maybe cooked oil trapped in the through bolt cavity.

Anyone experienced this smell?

It sounds like you're experiencing a strong sulfur smell while disassembling your 3.0L engine. It's likely that this smell could indeed be due to old, burnt oil that was trapped in the through-bolt cavity and got released when you removed the bolts. The smell of sulfur can sometimes be associated with certain types of engine oil or additives that have been exposed to high heat for extended periods. MyTHDHR

Engine oil got warm at some point (or a few points). It used to happen on our race engines, then we switched to synthetic oil. No more problems after that.
