1974 2.7 Engine - #8 Nose bearing

I just finished taking apart an engine I bought years ago. On each side of the case, there are two groves that line up with grooves on the old #8 bearing with brass dowel/pin, which I'm sure is not how it left the factory. Before I start sending parts to the machine shop, I'm wondering if the case can be repaired. I'm sure that assembling as is, it will leak badly.

Looks intentional but but should be repairable. Just weld it and aline bore the #8 when you aline bore the case.

Aline bore number 8 bearings are readily available.

*Although certainly not the best option, properly applied epoxy might also do the trick.

My engine case had corrosion on the #8 bearing saddle. Ollie’s machined it a little larger to allow for a 3.0 930 nose bearing.

Look at all that set up Loctite 574. It didn't squeeze out before setting up. Probably caused a #8 leak all by itself. That's why I don't use it.

If you use Yamabond or Titebond at the grooves and the Wrightwood Racing viton o-ring there will be no leaks , but the case is probably warped and needs machining
anyway .
