Weight of 914 Six Engine and Transaxle
I am in the process of removing the 2.7 liter flat engine and transaxle from my 914 six and would like to know the approximate weight of the engine and transaxle so that I can choose which floor jack to use.

Under 500kg. Never seen a floor jack that small.

Should be in the range of 180 to 200 kg for the engine and 50 to 60 kg for the transaxle (901 or 915 Mag or AL) which adds up to 230 to 260 kg (500 to 575 lbs).

About 420lb for a stock engine with exhaust. 72 lbs for the trans.

Get a Harbor Freight 1000lb lift table. Cheap and would be great for a 914 eng/trans R&R.

This is a GREAT TOOL. It makes the engine R&R a safe one man job, (still is nice to have help). It can be a very mobile - multi height work table. Less bending over and getting up and down. Very helpfull loading and unloading heavy stuff from back of truck, like appliances, wood stoves. chris |

I have two of them and they are invaluable when removing and working on my race car's engine and gearbox.

Those engine weights are high. I weighed my 3.2 as I put it together with CIS FI. Ready to install, it's about 360lbs. The magnesium engines are supposed to be about 20lbs less.

With the lift table, just make sure you know the minimum height they can do depending on your lift or jack setup. If you have a lift that goes higher than 3 feet (+/-?) the tables should work. Less than that I would really check all your measurements so you are sure you can roll it out from under the car when you put it on the table.
Alternatively, the ATV jacks can have very low min heights (3-4 inches) so they work with regular jackstands or a quickjack where you can only get the body about 24 inches off the ground. |
