Which Cylinders and Piston Set???

Hello all, some may have seen my other posts about engine rebuild, cylinder types, ect.

I found some scuff marks on the pistons and not considering, i’m going to pull the trigger on a new set of P/C’s.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Nickasil vs Alusil. If I had my druthers, I would have plain iron bore with aluminum pistons. My guess is that isn’t physible??? Yet earlier Boxers (not the model, the opposing arrangement) had them.

I’m also looking at cost. So if the advantages are only leaning a small bit between the two, i’ll go with the cheaper.

I found a set from our host, Nicasil/9.8 C/R, which I believe is .2 over the original ones I have.

If cost is an issue have your alusils plated with nikasil. Are you running cis?

So I got my Pistons and cylinders today. I opened all the boxes to inspect them and find out if they matched (weight). The codes in the books and on my worn one use numbers. These have a letter “A”. The other numbers are cast into the cylinder so they are not an indication of matching. All the date codes and numbers on the boxes are the same. Is the “A” the weight code?

Ohh, I just spotted a dimple number in the cast finish. Looks like “149”.
