Is the application difference between 0 and 1 to compensate for Crank Centerline to IMS Centerline differences in the case during initial build?

Set the gear backlash with the different sized gears. There's a chart in the workshop manual.

There is a size stamped on the pulley side of the cas to the left to match the IS.

Yes, like many things on 911 engines the parts were matched after machining to get tighter tolerances. Ultimately you are looking for a certain amount of backlash. Thread below has charts that show the mix of 0 & 1 cases along with Intermediate shaft gears and acceptable backlash and machining differences.

Only as it left the factory. If the case &/or int shaft has been align bored, the numbers may not apply. Measure gear backlash is the only way to be certain.
