Intermediate Shaft Gear Sets 0 & 1

Is the application difference between 0 and 1 to compensate for Crank Centerline to IMS Centerline differences in the case during initial build?

Set the gear backlash with the different sized gears. There's a chart in the workshop manual.

I haven’t looked at the books yet. I’ll check out the data. thank Doesn’t the “0” stamped number on the case indicate that a “0” set of gears are required?

There is a size stamped on the pulley side of the cas to the left to match the IS.

So back to my original question. Having two choices “0” or “1”, as indicated on the case, that can’t be interchanged. Meaning “0” case, “0” crankshaft gear, and “0” on the IMS gear. I would imagine someone here has a “1” case. So the only thing I can come up with is, that some dimensional deviation during the machining process of centerline (crankshaft) to centerline (IMS). Going to “1” if a the value over “X”.

Anyone agree/confirm?

Yes, like many things on 911 engines the parts were matched after machining to get tighter tolerances. Ultimately you are looking for a certain amount of backlash. Thread below has charts that show the mix of 0 & 1 cases along with Intermediate shaft gears and acceptable backlash and machining differences.

Intermediate shaft assembly question?

Only as it left the factory. If the case &/or int shaft has been align bored, the numbers may not apply. Measure gear backlash is the only way to be certain.
