Performance Developments machining services

In the last week or two I have received many calls asking about our services. I wondered why we received so many all of a sudden. I learned this morning that one of the more well known machine shops is currently not offering this service on certain parts.

Not sure why, hope that everything is ok. Hate to see this sort of thing happening.

So many machine shops have gone out of business over the years. Increased regulations, staying current with new machinery etc., has caused a lot of this.

PD has two operations now. One on the west coast and one on the east coast. For the air cooled 911 engines, we offer full engine case work including Line Bore work, Cylinder Head reconditioning, Connecting Rod recon, along with other work and processes, often needed.

We focus on a high level of workmanship and a quicker turnaround. As this increases the cost, we have less demand which allows for a faster turnaround.

Our services are not for all. I know that costs are important, but quality can only be offered if the time and effort is invested in the processes. Short cuts typically eliminate certain tasks.

Its' up to your quality expectations to decide where to go for these services.

Some years ago, (many) I worked at Andial in the race engine dept. I worked for and with many great people. Dieter, Mark Popoff (sadly missed) Steve B, Rich Creedon and some others. Since opening my open shop, I had need of additional machining help. Steve had left Andial and went and ran the family production CNC shop. When were swamped Steve would come at nights and in the weekends to help. He ran parts we make in house that helped us stay up with the demand. I could then focus on the development parts.

I left California and moved to mid Florida and Steve moved to Oregon. We share machinery and partner the work load. I am PD east and Steve is PD west. PD east does certain work and PD west does some of the same and other work. This allows me to continue with the development of new parts for both the air cooled and water Porsche engines, along with some other engine makes we build.

We both have the same desire to provide high quality work. If there is anything we can do, contact me and we will be happy to help.

This is great to hear Neil.

We were less than pleased with the worn performed on the last 2.7 7R case we sent to a well know machine shop we have used for years (change or ownership) and are looking for a new trusted vendor.

Cheers

We do all the machine work in house for our own projects, and happy to offer this service to others. We are not a production machine shop and our costs are higher. This disqualifies us for many as cost over quality is often the driver. This allows us to offer a faster turnaround as we are not buried in multiple customer work.
