Accusump

NEED info
I have a 964 3.6 L engine in a 914 have a front oil cooler have the Number 12 an pressure line on the right side of the engine going into an oil filter on the front bulkhead behind the seats number 12 line running through the heater duct to the front thermostat 12 line from the thermostat back to the dry sump tank, which is in behind where the fuel tank would be a 12 an line going from the thermostat to the oil cooler from the cooler also a12 an back to the thermostat a 16 an from the canton dry sump tank back to the suction side of the engine . I want to install an Accu sump tank and lines to supply the engine with the oil as needed basically before start up where is the best place to install the Accusump line into the engine? I don’t think I can place it on the suction side of the engine because it would not be able to have pressure to put oil back in the acusump tank any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated. Seems like a good spot to put it. What kind of volume does it have?

I think LN Engineering offers Accusump kits specifically for Porsche engines; you might contact them for some advice on that one.

It would need to go on the pressure side. The fitting at the rear of the case at the triangle of death would be the likely place, unless you drill and tap the top of the engine mounted T-Stat for a fitting.

There are a few types of Accusumps. The "best" one is the one with the internal piston and 3 qt capacity. The vertical mounted ones without the piston are considered inferior.

If you only need it for start up, there are remote filter adapters that have a built in primer. Obviously, it would need to be plumbed in on the pressure side, too. An electric drill provides the power to prime your oiling system.

With that volume you could pressurize from the cam tower line.

What is the procedure do you use. Is it for start or potential loss of supply?

It's not a bad idea to prime the engine to ensure oil pressure for cold startup. Can I ask what the use case is? Is this for intermittent use after the car has been sitting, or for priming after a rebuild?

Lessening the negative effects of cold starts is a worthy goal, but I do have to wonder how big a deal it really is for a healthy engine. 911 engines can go hundreds of thousands of miles when maintained and treated well (and I don't even mean babying them).

Personally, if an engine has been sitting for a bit I crank the engine for a couple 10 second bursts before starting (for a new rebuild I do it with plugs out). You can look for the oil pressure gauge needle to move slightly if you wish.

This is what we use for "Pre-Oiling" a fresh motor, or in this case one that has been sitting for years.....





We have used this even while still on a engine stand, though it can be a bit messy.



We put about 6-7 Qts into a pressurized paint bucket with a regulated 30 -35 lbs air pressure. Using a poly air feed hose we can see when the oil has been pushed through & into the motor.

I have custom fittings for this if needed.

Yes, this is for a start up on a fresh build. Also will be using it for auto cross and racing i’m looking for a tee that I can take off the sending unit put the tee in the block replace the sending unit on top of then tee then hook the acusump in to the tee with a 12 a fitting

I would ask,

What issue are you trying to overecome with an Accusump? Do you think that product will solve it?

We have seen/experienced data (from logging) to suggest we would never recommend or install one. Happy to learn otherwise as our sample size is small and in this case limeted to wet sump motors...

For prelubue, we have built our own tank with varying fittings to pre lube the variety of different engines we build. Ours is similar in principle to what BoxterGT posted...
