Yes, replace it. If it won’t screw down, unscrew it until it pops the swivel off. The threads stretch and can get real hard to move. Chase the threads if necessary.

It isn’t stuck it the rocker, I was cleaning, inspecting, and assembling the rockers during my current overhaul. I’m trying to figure out what happened. Car is fairly new to me. Definitely replacing.

Almost looks like something tried to pry the swivel foot off the shank by applying force at an angle, and bent the lip outward like that. I guess that wouldn't be part of normal operation though.

I can't see how that would happen in normal operation, so I would guess it was damaged during removal or installation or some such.

An over rev can do that. It usually leaves pecker tracks on the valve stem end.

PeteKz 10-15-2023 02:12 PM

I can sorta see that possibility. But if the engine was over revved enough to cause the valves to float that far off their seats, they would have hit the pistons, which would have prevented them from going far enough to bend the feet. So it seems to me.

A little valve float, bounce, not enough to break the rocker or real valve to piston contact, but enough for the swivel foot to hit the valve stem on its edge. It leaves little tracks on the valve stem. This is the best I have but have seen lots worse. Blow the image up and look for the littles straight lines on the stem. Pix don’t come thru very well. Anyway just a thought. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1697423152.jpg

Hmmm. I'll think about it some more.

Definitely man made ... ( not that i've done it ) !!!

Anyone measured the free play on the tip/screw junction? I thinking two were damaged, and 10 others my have been subjected.

porschedude996 10-17-2023 12:09 PM

I think i’ll order all new ones.
