Report after 3.2SS rebuild

I have almost finished my last rebuild and I am excited about what I am seeing. Car is a 1980SC I got in 2007 or so, from eBay on impulse without having even been in a 911. But I liked the shape of it... I was lucky enough to get JP Novaks help with converting to Megasquirt t-bitz around 2008 or so, before I shipped the car to here in Norway in 2009. Even if it was running fine it was always sluggish I thought, even with the usual SSIs&Dansk Sport muffler, 98 mm cylinders, ITBs and twin spark (JD distributor and dual M&K CDIs courtesy of Neil Harvey). But stock cams were clearly holding me back.

This year I had the heads gasflowed, and re-assembled with 98 mm 9.5CR JEs, Webcams 464/465 106LC cams, the newer larger SSIs & single outlet Dansk Sport, and I used a plastic manifold off a 964, or maybe 993 I don't know. The manifold is mated to the heads with beautiful adapters and fuel rails too from Adapt Motorsports. Throttle cable conversion and I run the full 964 airbox setup for now to test it out and to get rid of the annoying induction noise I had with ITBs. I went lower than with the compression (against advice) but premium is not generally available here.

After some initial mapping on the road I am absolutely amazed ! WHAT a transformation. Driveability from below 2000 RPM, at 3000 RPM it is almost as good as stock and from there it takes off. From 4000 it shines, at 5000 it flies, and it keeps pulling to 7000+ where I have set the revlimiter for now

A big thanks to William Knight who steered me towards these cams and got me the inlet manifold. I was sceptic to the cams and expected them to be all about high RPMs but am I glad I listened to William !

I still have to hook up the resonance flap in the manifold to the Megasquirt and very likely the muffler is restrictive and so I think there is more on the table. And a rolling road tuning session maybe too once those are done too. But for now I am amazed and very pleased!

Awesome update! It must have been a beast to drive once you got it mapped correctly!

Not really. Very harmonic and driveable. More rev happy and it is fun to drive. Have been tinkering with the car now for 15 years and hope it will continue to keep me entertained for many years
