engine removal

I've just got to the stage of lowering the engine (No. 19) in the 101 projects. Trouble is the box won't split from the engine. The 4 nuts are off, even the starter is off and I've checked around for anything else that might be hindering the split.
Anyone have any tips for splitting these two items?
Cheers
Tom

Tommy,

You will be much better off taking a few minutes to remove the transmission with the motor. Then do a search in the 911 Technical Forum for (I think) three posts where people had the exact same problem. The fixes are fairly simple, but easier with the motor out. It is also easier to re-mate the two with them both out.

Thanks for the reply.
I have managed it now. I placed a wooden block under the transmission and lowered the engine gently till they broke away from each other. I was very carefull when lowering the engine, keeping my eye on the join untill they just came apart, I even left the nuts flush on the studs so that the engine/trans would only part by about 1/4". I had no problems after that, then it was a case of smaller and smaller blocks placed below the transmission as the engine was lowered, with a bit of jiggling and pulling on each occasion I lowered the engine.
Cheers
Tom

you should put the year and model of you car in your signature to help us answer accurately, as various years have distinct differences.
